Weekend Rants

A few thoughts on the sportsworld going into the weekend.

Manny being Manny: I have a question. Why was Manny being Manny when everything was hunky dory in Beantown, but then when his discontent got serious he became a distraction and someone the fans turned on? Maybe everything isn’t nirvana in Boston - GASP, but maybe, the management is great, or the fans aren’t exactly wonderful, or maybe, as so happens in a lot of situations it was just time to go.

Favre: I know, I know….here is my take on the whole buyout deal. If Favre takes the money, fans are going to say, see, he really isn’t serious about coming back.  My take is if he does take the money, he is willing to still show a little grace and dignity in this whole debacle, because he knows at this point, he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. I’m not saying that he is a saint in this deal, but I think he will do it to, yes, save his legacy.

The Olympics: I want to write a longer post about this, but here is a two minute thought. I can’t wait to watch the Olypmics. Yes, the realist in me is upset about the censorship, the politics, the marketing, however, for those couple of hours when I tune in to watch the events, whether it is swimming, track and field or volleyball.  I know that those athletes are proud to be there, representing their countries.  Yes, there is a ton of room for skepticism, but I will be watching and waiting and hoping to see something great!
