Any tips for a golf beginner?

I’m grουndbrеаkіng nеw tο golf аnd played mу first game today. I played οn аn 18 hole, par 70 course аnd hit 118. I’ve οnlу bееn tο thе driving range once before playing today ѕο I wаѕ expecting tο dο sweet tеrrіblе. Mу girlfriends brother played wіth mе аnd shot a 75 whіlе giving mе a few tips bυt hе sweet much lеt mе gο аftеr begging mе tο come play.

I hаνе tο ѕау I lονеd іt аnd want ѕοmе tips οn getting better. Hοw tеrrіblе іѕ 118 fοr a first time? I οnlу hit par οn one hole аnd kept striking thе top οf thе ball. Thаt wаѕ mу main problem, getting levelheaded contact.

Mу following problem wаѕ a crazy curve I wаѕ striking whіlе driving. I reflect hе tοld mе іt wаѕ a slice аnd іt wаѕ going tο thе rіght.

I know thіѕ wіll аll come wіth time, bυt I don’t want tο gο practicing аt thе driving range аnd dο something incorrect thе whole time.

Thanks fοr аnу tips. I wаѕ sweet nervous tο gο out wіth one day οf practice mу entire life bυt I feel lіkе I сουld gеt thе hang οf іt. Shουld I stick tο thе driving range fοr a whіlе οr try a 3 par course close?

Make sure your hands are in front of the face of the club when you swing (not parallel), but not too much… You want to have a powerful shot.

Don’t just focus on tips for your swing, otherwise you’ll get too tense and the shot probably won’t be excellent. You want a natural swing.

Make sure you’re balanced when teeing off. Not only will you look like a dumbass if you fall over, but the shot might be messed up.

Don’t pull your shoulders up when you swing and come in contact with the ball. Your club will end up life too high on the ball and it might just fall off the tee.

When just getting started, how excellent you are has small to do with the make of your clubs.

Ok take a driver and a 7 iron and maybe a sand wedge and a pitching wedge take a few whiffle balls and tee the whiffle ball up with the driver if you hit them straight you can hit a golf ball straight take the irons get a excellent spot to place them on (whiffle balls) hit a few with them hit the whiffle balls with any club of your choice practice keeping your knees bent while striking the ball remember to keep weight on your front foot

Thats what I’m learning in my golf lessons THEY ROCK!

    Welcome to golf!

Here are really two ways you can go about getting better. The first is to get lessons from a PGA certified professional teacher. They really know what they are doing and cut down the learning curve significantly. Prices range from $35-$100+ for a lesson depending on the pro. Try to find one in your budget that you get along with.

The following, if a teacher isn’t realistic, is to emulate a excellent swing. Get yourself a full length mirror and a video camera. Find a professional golfer with a similar build to yourself and try to emulate their swing. Seeing your own swing and adjusting accordingly is the quickest way to improve by yourself if you don’t have a teacher, because you are taking all the guesswork out of it.

A further piece of information…. keep playing. On course experience is very excellent. 118 is average for a first round. Go to the driving range and keep practicing, but most of all work on your small game. This is from about 80 yards and in. This is where the fundamentals of your swing are really learned and where strokes are really saved. About 50-80% of your time should be spent putting and chipping, to improve the quickest.

Excellent luck, delight in the game!

Take lessons before rising terrible habits. Anything value doing is value doing right.

get lessons now .. its much simpler to lean something for the first time then it is to learn and then change it later…

yo im a sweet excellent golfer and average aroun 4 over par on 18. i am 17 years ancient and have been playing for three years
i can fix you. to stop “topping the ball” you have to follow through. wen i say this you are probably leaning back on your down swing to try to lift the ball up and this is the most terrible habbit. you must come down with the club and 90% of ur weight should be on the front footand you should take a strong divot.
the following thing is your slice and it is very terrible habit that i broke and made my score drop. on your downswing you must keep your right elbow (if you are right handed) as close to ur side as you can. and wen you make connection you should flip your wrist over to stop the slice. a excellent practice to do is take a 9 or 8 iron on the range and place a club head cover under ur right arm pit and hit golf balls and dont let it fall out
remember you dont have to kill the ball just make connection
email me for any questions and let me know if i helped you

    Taking Lessons

If you do have a lot of money to spend, and want to learn as quickly as possible, then a golf academy might be the choice for you. Most major metropolitan areas have at least one excellent golf school, and most major golf schools place forward lodging packages for those willing to travel.

    Where to Practice

At the driving range, of course, where you can hit a bucket of balls and nobody (except you) will care if most of your shots are terrible.

Most driving ranges also have practice putting greens. Some also feature practice chipping areas and sand bunkers.

Your back yard is a further excellent place to practice a swing, although you observably don’t want to be striking real golf balls. Try a wiffle golf ball, or just work on the swing mechanics you’ve been learning during lessons.

And then here’s the living room – made to order for putting practice.

    Where to Play

Par-3 courses are excellent choices for beginners. These are generally nine holes, all small par-3s. Executive courses are also shorter than full-sized 18-hole courses

it’s best to have a lesson from a pro. Without a video of your swing we can’t tell speak to the club pro. Lessons are cheap aswell

  • Jake S:

First, I would urge taking lessons from a Golf Pro. When you first go to the Pro and question for lessons, tell him you want to learn to play as well and you are capable and following question him to give you lessons on golf etiquette. Even though you may never become a excellent golfer at least you will know how to act on a golf course and other golfers will always delight in playing with you.

Fundamentals, fundamentals, and more fundamentals! Learn them and practice them. Don’t waste time practicing mistakes. Get the fundamentals down from the get go, and you’ll have a wonderful golf experience and less frustration.
