i’m 22 yrs old, and want to make golf a new hobby. I’ve been hitting at the driving range every now and then using my dads clubs. I use to work at a golf course, so i’m ok on my stances, but is there anything you all would recommend me doing since im a beginner? I don’t even have clubs. I was thinking of just going to Wal Mart to pick up some Wilsons or Top Flite or something pretty cheap, and maybe a better driver from a golf store. How does that sound? Are there any other things you guys can recommend for me? Thanks!!!
also…am i too OLD to start, or can i actually be ok at golf if i work hard enough???

Any tips for a golf beginner?

I’m brand new to golf and played my first game today. I played on an 18 hole, par 70 course and hit 118. I’ve only been to the driving range once before playing today so I was expecting to do pretty bad. My girlfriends brother played with me and shot a 75 while giving me a few tips but he pretty much let me go after begging me to come play.

I have to say I loved it and want some tips on getting better. How bad is 118 for a first time? I only hit par on one hole and kept hitting the top of the ball. That was my main problem, getting solid contact.

My second problem was a crazy curve I was hitting while driving. I think he told me it was a slice and it was going to the right.

I know this will all come with time, but I don’t want to go practicing at the driving range and do something wrong the whole time.

Thanks for any tips. I was pretty nervous to go out with one day of practice my entire life but I feel like I could get the hang of it. Should I stick to the driving range for a while or try a 3 par course nearby?

Each game could cost between $50-80 including the green fees and carts. Is it worth it to learn? I make $100K per year but I find the game too expensive, unlike tennis. I could be blowing off $300-400 per month on the games, driving ranges, equipment.

Is it only a very rich man’s game?

I think it’s a myth that golf is for the top executives who make million-dollar deals on the course. Maybe 0.1% people do it. Other 99.9% people probably play for “status”.

I believe it is the most hyped up sport in the world. Do you agree?
